Time to start painting! For my sponsor I've chosen Nabisco Ritz Crackers. I've found logos on the web that are pretty good. One thing to keep in mind when getting logos, try to find ones as big as possible. As a rule of thumb downsizing an image to fit will give you a better quality image than making a small image larger. I'm doing this car with the same sponsors as the car I did for the PSP7 tutorial, but will make the stripes a bit different so that the cars will be different as well. This car will also be done on a 512x512 template since it is easier to find logos on the web for the smaller size. The cars and trucks I paint as requests and for my self are pretty much done on the larger hi resolution templates because I think they look sharper in the game. It is harder to find good logos big enough for the hi rez templates though.
First thing we need to choose is a base color. Here's a picture of the 2 logos I'm going to use, and from where I'll get my base color.

Looks like the car will be red! I like the red from the Ritz cracker image so I'll use that. I'll select the flood fill tool from the left side tool bar in PSP, and then use the eyedropper to get the red I want. Then all you have to do is flood fill the car body layer and the base paint is done. The bright red from the Nabisco logo is probably a good one for a secondary graphic. Speaking of graphics we have to figure out what we're going to put on this car. I look at what's out there on real cars to see if there's something I like. I found a fairly simple design on the #37 Friendly's car. It has enough curves on it to show how to do them with PSP. Here's a picture of the real car:

There's 3 colors to this car. I already have the red base paint done so that leaves 2, the white stripe and the black. Using colors in the logos I have I think the bright red will look good where the black is. I'm going to do a blue line where the white line is now, and yellow for the 3rd color. Here's how I went about making the first layer of graphics:
First thing I do is select the layer I want to paint in the layer palette. The one I want is called Graphics 2, Click on it to activate it, It should be highlighted like in the picture below.

To make the curves in PSP 8 is a lot different than in PSP 7. There's a good tutorial on how to do a bezier curve in PSP 8 here
Note: I
changed my mind about the white stripe after I made this picture. I made the
stripes blue instead. The making of the lines is the same regardless of what
color you use.
Start out by choosing the
line tool from the tools toolbar on the left. At the top of the screen will be
the tool options. Check off "create as a vector". What I did then to get the
curve above was put the start point for the line on the template about where I
wanted the start point of the line on the car to be. Now comes a tricky part.
You have to guess where your original end point will be so that when you modify
things it will end up where you want. Clear as mud I bet!. I had to try a few
times to get what I wanted. Once you have the original straight line release the
mouse button and then move the cursor to where you want the new end point to be.
Click and the line will now end at the point you just selected. You can now
rotate the end point to get a different curve too. It will take a few times
trying at least to get things where you want them. The nice thing about
"painting" on a computer is that you can just hit the undo button if you don't
like what you've done! One last thing to do and we've got the first curve done.
Because we made the curve as a vector there's a new vector layer in our layers
list on the right. Right click on it, and a pop up window will open. Towards the
bottom it will say "convert to raster". Click this and you will have a new layer
with the curve you just made in it without all the vector tools in it.
On my car I like the way the curved turned out here. I will use the line tool
with the "make as a vector" unchecked in the tool options to make a straight
line below the curve I just made. These 2 lines, the curve and the straight line
will be the outline for yellow graphics I want to add.
